College Medal

The College Medal is a unique award offered by the RCPCH. This medal is given on an extraordinary basis to individuals within the world of child health and wellbeing, who may not be paediatricians nor work within the medical sphere.

In 2026, we presented the College Medal to Julia Donaldson CBE for her significant contribution to child health and wellbeing. Julia is a well-loved children's author and playwright, and the 2011–2013 Children's Laureate. She is best known for her much loved children’s books, including The Gruffalo and Zog and the Flying Doctors.

In 2006, we presented the College Medal - for the first time - to Anne Diamond in recognition of her tireless work and advocacy around the issue of cot deaths. Anne's work was revolutionary and monumental, her partnership with the Foundation for the Study for Sudden Infant Death, now known as the Lullaby Trust, changed the thinking and practices of paediatrics.
