Theory exams: How to get involved

We run three Theory exams for our membership exam (MRCPCH) and Diploma of Child Health. Members across the UK volunteer to help ensure the quality and rigorousness of every exam - such as writing and reviewing new questions, setting and reviewing the exams, setting the minimum pass score, reviewing results, providing guidance on reasonable adjustments and helping ensure the syllabi reflects the training curriculum.

There are opportunities for those who have just passed MRCPCH as well as those with extensive experience. Explore the roles and get in touch!

Progression of volunteering roles

We have a range of opportunities to support the Theory exams, and the below flowchart shows how you might progress, depending on your experience and time commitment.

You'll find more detail about each role next.

Question Setting Groups: Help us write questions for the exams

We hold Question Setting Groups (QSGs) across the UK and virtually several times a year. These bring together College members with MRCPCH, including trainees, consultants and SAS doctors, to write new questions for the Theory exams.

"This was the second... QSG I have attended. It was an incredible experience, and I hope you continue it."
